Christians for Fair Witness on the Middle East strongly rebukes America Magazine for the disgraceful editorial "Israel at 60" (May 26 edition) in which it asks whether Israel can be both Jewish and a democracy.

In their assessment of the recent round of violence between Israel and its adversaries, the writers and editors of America's, a weekly Catholic magazine, have exhibited a marked tendency to invoke the language of the just war doctrine to condemn Israel's Behavior without fairly applying the principles this language is meant to portray.

Christians for Fair Witness on the Middle East is concerned that a bias against the state of Israel has emerged within many of the mainstream Christian denominations. This prejudice is reflected in a troubling willingness to lay the blame for the conflict in the Middle East on Israel’s shoulders while saying very little about any culpability the Palestinians or Arab nations might have.
